HALT & HASS Information

This section is designed to provide information on the topics of HALT & HASS. The processes of HALT, HASS Development, Proof Of Screen, and HASS will be outlined and briefly explained with supporting illustrations. It is worth noting that there is no standard for HALT & HASS, there is no scientific relation between the results attained during HALT and the actual products life.

HALT will identify the weakest points in a products design, and allow failure modes to be replicated in a repeatable manner, where they can then be diagnosed and fixed.

HALT - Highly Accelerated Life Testing

HALT is an effective tool used during the product development phase to precipitate dormant design related failures to the surface, where they can be diagnosed and corrected, before the product is introduced to mass manufacturing. In addition, HALT will identify the weakest points in a system or product. These weak points will often lead to failures in the field some months, or even years, after general product release.

HASS - Highly Accelerated Stress Screen

HASS is a tailor made solution for each of your products. After you conduct HALT testing, you know exactly what stress levels your product can handle. This knowlegde provides you with the ability to create a production screen that won't damage good hardware, but will find process related issues. HASS screens are predominantly used to screen out infant mortalities in the production environment, but there are many more areas to apply such a screen.
